Climb Up and Down
I do NOT like the ladder analogy. I understand the point the author was trying to make, but I feel like there are too many restrictions. I also get the feeling that descriptions (being at the bottom of the ladder) are a poor form of writing and bigger and deeper words (which are at the top of the ladder) show writing maturity. I know that this isn't what the essay was saying, but I have an extremely difficult time with that analogy.
